Patra & Chanda Mfg. & Eng. (India) Pvt. Ltd. (formerly Patra & Chanda Engg. and carrying the logo PCE) is a leading ISO: 9001 : 2008 accredited Company and since its inception in 1970 has specialized in the indigenous development and manufacturing of critical import substitute mechanical and electrical traction components for the Indian Railways (CLW, DLW, Zonal Railways), Indian Defence Sector (DGQA-Veh), PSU (BHEL) and Multinational Companies including Siemens, Bombardier, Schneider etc.
 
       The Company takes pride in the successful development of a wide range of import substitute AC and DC EARTHING SWITCH for Conventional (DC traction) Locomotives, for Three Phase IGBT Locomotives of different types and makes complete with VCB interlocking arrangement, for Electrical Multiple Units (EMU).Other import substitute products include KEY MULTILPLIER SYSTEM, PANTOGRAPH ISOLATING COCK, CAB ACTIVATING KEY SWITCH, HT DOOR LOCK etc. Going by actual figures, PCE can claim billions of failure-free operating hours of these products without any negative feedback from customers.
 
      PCE has taken up the challenge to be a key and dynamic player in the development of critical components with advancing technologies for the above customers and has diversified into Elecronic products as Diode assemblies and Solid State Relays (EFR, MVR etc.) used in IGBT Locomotives. We are happy that our efforts have resulted in considerable foreign exchange saving of the nation.
 
          Additionally, PCE has always insisted on continual improvement of its manufacturing processes and has gone ahead to procure the state-of-the art machinery and test equipment for crucial quality control of its products including reliability tests. Apart from statutory registrations under SSI, NSIC, PCB, the Company has largely adapted ISO-9001 practices both in manufacturing and administration and documentation to ensure product quality and operational reliability, enhance productivity and delivey reliability, achieve customer satisfaction all under fierce market competition. He has been associated with the manufacture of various mechanical and electro- mechanical items for 45 years.He had ingeneously devised manufacturing process and techniques,identified appropriate state – of –the – art machinery for mass production; set up Q-steps to ensure final quality of the products which could meet the governing standards for Railway Transportation application.

 

 

 

Probal Mukherjee-Techinal Advisor (Electrical & Electronics )

 

Educational Qualification: Graduate in Electronics & Electrical Communication Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology at Kharagpur in 1975.

Experience: More than 35 years experience in R&D and design in Magnetics and Power Electronics in India. Retired as General Manager, R&D at TDK-Epcos (Former Passive Electronics Components Division of Siemens) Inductive Plant in Kalyani, West Bengal and have been associated with the development of ferrite materials and core shapes and have been closely connected with need-based magnetics development for the Static energy-meter, Lighting and Welding industries in India. Presently engaged as Adjunct Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering, Academy of Technology, Adi-saptagram, West Bengal and working as a Technical Advisor to M/s Patra & Chanda Manufacturing and Engineering Pvt. Ltd. in Howrah, West Bengal.

Honors: Convener of the Magnetics Sub-committee of the Sectional Committee LITD5 of the Bureau of Indian Standards from 2008 to 2013. Member of the Technical Committee 51 on Magnetic Components and Ferrite Materials of the International Electro-technical Commission (IEC) from 2004 to 2013. Received the IEC 1906 Award in 2008 for contribution to TC 51 Projects.
